Who We Are
The Bunbury Players were founded in the midst of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic as a group of friends who wanted to create theatre as an escape by presenting a Zoom production of The Importance of Being Earnest, free of charge for all to view. Once lockdown ended and it became safer for larger gatherings, we began presenting our productions in person.
From the beginning, we decided to present all of our shows for free, and to make them as accessible as possible for all to see. While we request a $20 donation at the door, we will never turn anyone away, as we believe the arts should be available to the entire population.
Bunbury Players is first and foremost a community project - presented by the community for the community. We do not receive any government funding and rely solely on our patrons. We also do not currently receive any corporate sponsorship, though we are not opposed to doing so, as long as the company aligns with our values of inclusion, diversity, and equity. While we understand the difficulties of this in a capitalist economy, we believe that giving people the ability to present and experience art is much more important.
